Join us for a discussion of ethics in fundraising. Presented by Ed Sandifer, Major and Planned Giving Officer at the Indianapolis Zoo & Jeff Lukacsena, Graduate Assistant at the IU School of Liberal Arts and Graduate Students at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.

We will look at the AFP code of Ethics, the CGP ethical guidelines, and then examine some additional case studies about ethical issues in fundraising and philanthropy.

About the presenters:

Jeff Lukacsena currently is a Masters of Arts student at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. He also serves as a graduate assistant in the School of Liberal Arts. Additionally, He serves as a volunteer fundraising ambassador for the Indianapolis chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness and participates in their annual VisionWalk. Prior to coming to Indianapolis, He served in the same role in Pittsburgh since 2016. In that time he has raised nearly $21,000 to help the foundation Fighting Blindness continue their research to find cures for blinding eye conditions.

Previously he served as a Fundraising Consultant for 501c3 Squared. He previously worked as the Development Associate for East Suburban Citizen Advocacy. His other positions were at the Pittsburgh Aids Task Force and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust where he worked on planned giving marketing. He serves on the board of the Pittsburgh Planned Giving Council. He also was a charter member of the Western PA chapter of the Grant Professionals. At the 2016 Emerging Philanthropy Conference, he presented a panel discussion entitled, “Diversity and Inclusion: For the Small Shop and beyond”. Jeff has been the chair of diversity for AFP of Western PA since 2010, where he implemented and has overseen the Diversity Fellows program. He received the Chamberlin scholarship in 2010 to attend the AFP International Conference in Baltimore. He has a Bachelor’s of Arts from Duquesne University in Corporate Communications and a Public and Professional Writing certificate from the University of Pittsburgh.

Ed Sandifer serves as the Planned and Major Gifts Officer for the Indianapolis Zoo, joining the Zoo in 2002.  Ed began his career in philanthropy in 1999 as Director of Planned Giving at Marian College (now Marian University) in Indianapolis, while concurrently serving as Assistant Counsel to the Indiana State Senate.  Ed previously served as an attorney in private practice focusing on estate planning, probate, real estate, and family law matters. 

Ed served on the board of directors of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners from 2017 - 2019.  He is a member and former president of the Charitable Gift Planners of Indiana, and he is also a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Indiana Chapter. Ed received his B.A. from Indiana University and his J.D. from Indiana University McKinney School of Law.
