March 2011 Chapter Meeting
Topic - General overview of government relations, why it is important, how to approach project funding from government sources and what does/does not work.
Presenters - Dennis McManus, Government Relations at Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Stan Caldwell, Director of State Relations for CMU.
Mr. McManus currently serves as Chairman of the Governmental Relations Committee of the Pennsylvania Association of Regional Food Banks and on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Hunger Action Center. His work with Feeding America (the nation’s food bank network) includes service on their Research Advisory Group and Hunger Action Month Committee.
Mr. Caldwell was recently named associate director of Traffice21, a multidisciplinary research initiative of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). He has served as executive director for U.S. Senator Arlen Specter’s Pittsburgh Regional Office; political adviser covering 25 counties for Senator Specter’s 1998, 2004 and 2010 campaigns; community development manager for the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission; and several years as an independent public affairs consultant.
