Overview: The Assistant Director of Community Outreach & Engagement will work very closely with the Executive Director and Volunteer & Program Development Manager on promoting and raising funds for the WAHS mission through events, programs, direct mail, digital media, and all other platforms available.

Duties: (to include but not limited to)

  • Promote the mission of WAHS within the community by actively building relationships with our donors, local corporations, community leaders and the public
  • Plan and be present for groups and corporations bringing supplies and donations to WAHS for photos and coverage on our social media
  • Attend events on behalf of the WAHS to engage the community to better promote the shelter including events on weekends and evening hours
  • Coordination and overall execution of three large events a year.  The position is responsible for coordination and detail management on the main WAHS events. The Executive Director will work closely with this person to ensure success of events. Additionally, they will work with the Volunteer & Program Development Manager to assure events are staffed properly with volunteers
  • Work closely with Volunteer & Programming Manager on any high-publicity outreach events and opportunities to make sure they get proper coverage
  • Help Executive Director coordinate press releases, news articles, and other media coverage when needed
  • Be present for interviews on television and radio when necessary
  • Coordinate a social media calendar for all events, programs, services for our Facebook communications
  • Assist kennel and cats in keeping dogs & cats up-to-date on social media sites and website as needed
  • Help Executive Director with annual fundraising plan
  • Promote awareness of WAHS and its programs and work with Volunteer & Program Development Manager to ensure programs are receiving proper promotion
  • Work closely with Executive Director on direct mail appeals, and all other solicitations
  • Keep detailed list of profit/loss of each event, sponsor history, and in-kind donation history
  • Answer all event, press and sponsor inquiries via email and phone in a timely manner
  • Assist front desk staff with donor data entry, management of donor database, and preparation of acknowledgment letters
  • Assist in donor retention and acquisition at the mid-level donor range
  • Seek sponsorships for WAHS programs and events and assist in sponsorship retention

Job requirements: (to include but not limited to)

  • Minimum Educational requirements include undergraduate degree from a four-year college or university
  • Relevant course work is preferred with proven track record of raising funds
  • Evidence of a passionate commitment to the proper care of all animals is a necessity

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to supervise in a constructive and professional manner
  • Ability to delegate job responsibilities appropriately
  • Ability to interact with diverse people
  • Must be highly organized
  • Professional attitude and appearance a must
  • Knowledge of Windows based software, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred
  • Ability to learn new computer programs including the WAHS website
  • Willingness to work variable schedules
  • Willingness to attend educational and training programs as deemed necessary
  • Valid PA driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
